I liked this book a lot! Fair warning- dark themes (if that isn’t obvious).

TW: r*pe, child abuse, SA, domestic violence, stalking, religious trauma, ableism

In classic dark romance fashion, everyone simultaneously sucks, but I root for them anyway. As a post-religious person myself, I loved the religious lens this book was told in…it just keeps getting better. The villain villains were great, and the good villains were loveable.

I read Hooked, and this is the second of the series I’ve read. I liked the breadth of the story, as it covered more than just our 2 MCs in its growth, in a way that Hooked just didn’t do for me. I also think this ending is better- they don’t just float away alone on a boat to “somewhere”.

I thought the representation of Quinton as a neurodivergent/autistic person was so well done, I could cry. No pigeon holing him, he was a character with development. Also, I loved that they didn’t treat him like an incompetent baby- made me like Amaya that much more.

The story is well thought out, and ends with a nice bow over everything, which I always appreciate. It’s true to the genre; cheesy, over-the-top, dark, sexy, mysterious-but-predictable, and definitely a fun read. If you’re a fan of dark romances, this is a comfy one for your shelf.
