Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors

5.0

Oooooooof. I loved this. I’ve always been a sucker for the broken up writing style, and these characters. Now, some of them are truly suck ass people, but I appreciate it. Lots of people IRL are suck ass people, so the realism is appreciated. Cleo is a melodramatic, ‘artist type’ who is 25 when she meets Frank, an alcoholic, workaholic who’s in his 40s. Things happen very quickly, and each chapter is from the perspective of someone close to them. Many of these are men who feel a type of possession over Cleo (but not you Santiago. You are wholesome and I love you). To me, this played like a film or limited series in my head. I think it’s worth a read for anyone who love novels that feel so real. I’ve been talking about someone of these characters like I actually know them. Eleanor, looking you babe ❤️
