The Brooklyn Follies
by Paul Auster
This book is very intellectual... in an inspiring way rather than an alienating one. It is also full of humor, sorrow, anger, and all of the things that make up an honest representation of life. This is a story about an eventful time in the lives of a number of people connected through family and friends living in the New York area pre 9/11. I recommend this book to people who enjoy meaningful stories about people that aren't overly romantic and sentimental, but still inspire empathy and connection to the characters.
