Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler
5.0

I have to say that this book is not at all what I expected. I knew it was a young adult and I read the summary, but the summary doesn't tell you anything. It doesn't express the emotions experienced from losing your first love before you have a definition. It doesn't tell you that Anna loses something before it even begins and that no one else know what she lost. She has to keep this secret. And then she has to move on.

I found the book to be realistic of teenagers without being corny or cheesy. The girls were not perfect, but they were not bad kids. They just wanted to have fun.

The description of Anna and her V-card is spot on. Most girls just want to lose it and then once they've lost it they don't really understand the importance. In society today, a girl's virginity is not something important-it's something to get over with so that you can get to the good stuff. Sarah Ockler portrayed this accurately.

Overall, I was shockingly surprised. I did not expect this book to be good, or to have tears in my eyes for a good portion of the book, but I did. I will definitely be reading some more of Sarah Ockler. I can't believe this was her first novel, I want to see what she did/does after this.
