She Gets the Girl by Rachael Lippincott, Alyson Derrick

2.0

Couldn’t finish this. Front cover is beautiful and I thought the story sounded good. However, the character “helping“ the socially anxious peer is really just a jerk who’s “teasing” is making fun of Molly for the way she is. Alex seems to think Molly’s quirks are problems that need to be changed in order for Molly to get the girl. All along they’re falling for each other despite the fact that Molly is trying to get another girl, who actually is developing feelings it seems like, but from what I can tell it seems like she’s going to be left behind. Equally wrong is that Alex has real trauma that needs to be addressed and worked out in therapy, but the author seems to be trying to show that just by falling for Molly, Alex’s years of trauma and codependency with her alcoholic mommy are suddenly going to be healed.
