First off.. THE FEELS 😭😍😭😍. Secondly, I have a lot to say about this book.

I'm currently interning with a local domestic violence shelter and just finished a 30hr training session learning about perpetrators and why they commit domestic violence. So, while reading Loving Jade, all I could do was compare how Roya portrayed the perpetrator to how a perpetrator would act in real life. I am super glad that Roya Carmen was able to get that aspect down to a T.

In a domestic violence situation it is all about power and control, which was certainly true in Jade's situation. Jade was isolated from her friends, she wasn't allowed to have a job and she was discouraged from going to college. Jade's husband, Michael, even controlled what went on the bedroom.

Jade promised herself that she would leave when slap #10 happened. I know people would say,'well I would've left after the first slap', but you know what? Women stay because of love and loyalty and everything in between, and Roya did a great job portraying those feelings and justifications.

Throughout the book you see Jade questioning her actions. You see her yearning for Michael even though she found what a true relationship is capable of with Flynn. That's ok, because even though a woman was hit and beat, they will still miss the man their husband was when they first met.

When Michael escalated, he took Jade to a special spot where their relationship fully bloomed and there were lots of great memories. This was an attempt to get her to fall in love with him again. Although Jade felt some happy emotions while there, she realized that that relationship was wrong and no matter how hard Michael tried, she needed to be strong enough to say no. We get to see that strength play out too, we get to see Jade's transformation. It was great.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. I loved Flynn, I loved reading his story and finding that perfect woman. I was disappointed that I was able to figure out what would happen next. It was a bit predictable, and from what I know of perpetrators in domestic violence, they are unpredictable. This didn't effect my enjoyment of Flynn and Jade's story at all. I truly loved it.

If you haven't read Loving Amber or Loving Ruby, the first two books in the Riverstone series, you should! You will fall in love with all the characters!
