When was in 5th grade I read the book "My Side Of The Mountain" and was pretty sure I wanted to go live in a burned out tree in the woods and teach myself to be a falconer with no trouble. Turns out, that is not something I would enjoy because I am allergic (both literally and methodically) to the outdoors and falcons are way smarter than I have them credit for. This book however, was kind of like experiencing that kind of life from the perspective of a man who has done it for the last 40 years. He lives without modern conveniences; indoor plumbing, a car, electricity, a phone... he hunts, fishes for or grows much of his food (he still goes to the grocery store from time to time). He brews his own beer and he makes his own wine. Ken Smith does it all and he's learned a few things about life as he has done it. I really enjoyed this book. Ken writes from a very human perspective without the pressures of modern life to taint the lessons he has learned along the way. He is a man without agenda (unless it is chopping wood, that is always on his agenda) and a breath of fresh mountain air.
Highly recommend this one for anyone who want to feel some inner peace.
