The Penguin Lessons by Tom Michell

4.0

Such a sweet story, with a few life lessons thrown in to boot. It made me wish I'd adopted a penguin (or any pet for that matter) during my travels as an English teacher in South Korea.

I know next to nothing about Argentinian politics today, never mind 40 or 50 years ago, but the book did give me a few insights into the Peron era that have made me curious to find out more, and even more interested in travelling to South America, though I'd skip some of Michell's encounters with customs and the cold if at all possible.

Why not 5 stars? Because I found the pacing, particularly towards the end, to be a bit off, and some of the narration to be confusing. It was, however, still an excellent read that I polished off in all of 2 days.
