Caged is the first book in the Defiant Kings series.
Pierced Alpha MMA Fighter finally acts on his feelings for his best friends little sister while keeping an eye on her after a break-in at the gym.
Hudson is an MMA fighter and therefore fierce & touch by nature. But when it comes to those that he cares about, he is more gentle. He's protective, too. I enjoyed the way that he jumped into action when it came to protecting Maddy after the break-in. I also liked how soft he was with Maddy.
Maddy was cute. She was independent and self-sufficient. She didn't NEED to be taken care of or protected. I loved that she had all the gumption needed. I really liked the juxtaposition of Maddy's personality. She can seem meek/mild, but when push comes to shove, she is fierce.
I really liked the forced proximity trope in this book. Maddy took care of Hud after an injury, and this just catapults the plot line for them to get to know one another better.
I liked experiencing Maddy as she let her guard down with Hudson. She has every reason to be guarded, but the fact that she allows Hudson into her heart and allows him to touch her is a beautiful dance of trust.
The break-in was our original source of drama, which caused these two to he so close and their feelings to grow ... I wish the resolution to the break-in was given more time.
I really enjoyed the tension & angst in this book. The intimate scenes were done super well. The storyline flowed really well. The witty banter added to the overwhelming chemistry.
I do feel the story was a tadbit rushed in places and could have expanded a bit more on some of the antagonistic plotlines.
