CW:
I'm living my best fantasy life at the moment and this book just gave me a new auto-read author. It has a commendation from Ilona Andrews on the front so that should have been a hint that I would enjoy it. Two unlikely allies team up to escape the clutches of a corrupt and cruel empire that had taken both of them from their usual lives. Gilene, a fire witch, and Azarion, a gladiator/ousted chieftain, work together but don't particularly like each other but they warm to each other over time and with the challenges they face.
First and foremost a fantasy but the romance subplot is *chefs kiss*
