Though I understand the story is a modern retelling of SpoilerDavid's early life (1 Samuel), at times it ran too parallel to be good fiction. The Bible does it better of course, so you find yourself correcting the Rogers' retelling in your mind or wondering why he changed this or that fact. But when he veers off into the other adventures of Aiden, this book's story shines through more. You also find yourself saying, "I've heard this before." The narration by the author is great and has the perfect Southern twang to fit the setting of the book.
