Blood & Brujas is the first in the Fate of the Acna Duology and follows Dayanara on her journey to becoming the Acna (queen of the witches) and the conflict with the witches' sworn enemies, the vampires. I love how unique and interesting the world building is and there is a captivating cast of characters that include vampires, witches, and wolf shifters in a rich and diverse world with a great deal of political intrigue. The book really hits the ground running from the beginning, but it did seem to drag around the midway point, though there are indications that this is all set up for the next Air & Essence. Overall, this book is a promising first installment and I am interested to see how things develop in the sequel.
