The Bunker Diary by Kevin Brooks
5.0

I LOVED this book. I like the darkness to it and I loved the tension. Linus is kidnapped along with five other people where they are put into some weird bunker, everything is entirely controlled by their kidnapper who watches their every move through cameras placed in every room around the bunker. He controls everything, the heating, the lighting, the amount of food they have and what goes in and out of the bunker. The only way in or out is through a lift but that is only there to bring up and down items, try and break through it and you'll end up with a nasty shock.

The pacing of the story is what I like best. The first half of the book moves slowly, just like it would if you were actually in the bunker. Linus' language clearly displays his emotions as every diary entry seems to sound like he's getting more and more frustrated. The first half is escape plans and everyone trying to get over the fact that there is no escape. The next half moves slowly, everyone has given up and time trudges by slow paced. Then there's a jump and everything just falls to pieces. The writing is beautiful. You feel like you're actually in the bunker.

The characters are interesting, I don't really like how sometimes the author draws you away from what's going on so you can have a flashback since sometimes they last really long but I guess is portrays what's going on in Linus' mind.

Overall it's an amazing book. Kevin Brooks is a brilliant author and I'm definitely going to be reading more of his books in the future. I recommend this to all kinds of readers, my friend who never reads decided to read this and she loved it.
