It has been almost an entire month since I finished this book, and I still don‘t know how to express my thoughts on it. Not in a negative way, it‘s just that I can‘t put into words how this book made me feel.
Let’s start with the setting/overall plot:
This book is dark. Like, really dark. Murder and stalking and all that. However, while reading this, I constantly found myself giggling over the romance more than worrying about the characters? „Yes, it‘s illegal but they are so cuteee“ was basically my main thought throughout the book. I will say though, the last 20 to 30% of the book were a lot darker than the rest of the book. This story talks about domestic violence and stalking by an ex in extreme detail, which was scary at times. But luckily, as it is romance, there is a happy ending. I‘d still 100% recommend checking the trigger warnings before reading (there’s a lot of them…)
The book is relatively short, at just 250 pages, but most issues I usually have with shorter books were not a problem here. The pacing felt even and it was easy and quick to read without feeling like it is rushed. I felt like I was ble to understand the characters and their motives, which is rare for me.
Now for my favourite part of any book: the Romance
Danielle and Blair are absolutely perfect for each other. The story is told through both of their povs and it was so cute to see how they progressively fell for each other. As I mentioned earlier, Blair stalks Danielle. But, like, in a hot way. They have a difficult dynamic at the start, but when they get to know each other they just click. Also, as a wheat allergy girly, I just have to mention that Blair learns how to bake for Danielle, who has celiac disease. It was so so cute and honestly the moment I was fully won over by her.
I would definitely recommend this one to anyone looking for a dark romance, that still has abundant of cute moments and great character art (check out the authors‘ Instagram, its worth it, I swear!)
Trigger Warnings:
Stalking, Murder, Domestic Violence, Violence, Torture, Blood, Discussions Of Mafia Activity, Sexual Content, DubCon, CNC
Thanks to the author for the review copy.
