Taming Demons for Beginners by Annette Marie

3.0

In retrospect, this has [a:Ilona Andrews|21748|Ilona Andrews|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1588103544p2/21748.jpg] vibes. My favorite! But this is not that, so this is not my favorite. I guess my expectations didn't match what I got. What I expected: bangin'-hot demon romance. What I got: oddly structured urban fantasy with only the merest hints of attraction. Do not let the "romance" category marked on Goodreads fool you: this is like, not even the first act of a romance. It's like, the first 25% of a romance. 10% maybe, because there is not much happening there.

That being said, I want the...potential...of what this could become. So I'm continuing. I struggled with my rating and went with 3 stars. The characterization of the demon is very good, and I find him rather funny. I also like the atypical characterization of the lead: she's not a badass. I didn't really care about the MPD or whoever, but it was done pretty well.

I just wanted bangin'-hot steam and I didn't get it.
