The Unleashed by Sarah Dalton

I was a bit worried part way through this book that it wasn't going to be as strong as the others, and if I'm honest, it wasn't... mostly because the vantage point changed to other (formerly supporting) characters in order to have the story work as a cohesive whole. The biggest problem with this was the shift from first person narrative to third person when switching between the main and supporting characters - that bugged me.

However, it was great to read an entire series where the whole cast is not white, where a girl/woman is doing what she believes is best and living with the consequences, and where she is generally treated as a person who is capable of knowing her own mind.

Bonus points for including a queer, mixed race couple because the author wanted to, and no big deal was made of it.
