As someone who was raised in an Igbo and Christian family, as well as being LGBT and this facing (not as strongly as in this book) extensive religious bigotry as a result, i related to this book alot. The main character's coming of age is beautiful, and Adichie excellently weaves in several messages within the book, without it feeling forced or unnatural. I really do think this book is beautiful and uniquely realistic. If there was an "issue" I had, it would have been the end of the story wrapped up oddly fast considering the rest of the pace of the book, but I don't view that as a real problem.
Graphic: Child abuse, Domestic abuse, and Miscarriage
Moderate: Religious bigotry
Minor: Police brutality
