The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio
5.0

I’ve struggled for weeks with what to say about this book and at this point I don’t think profundity is on its way, but this is one of the most important books you can possibly read about immigration and the lives of people who come to the U.S. It plays into exactly zero stereotypes about exceptional people triumphing against incredible obstacles and dares to celebrate immigrants simply because they are people. It’s very intentionally not tailored for the white gaze. I also recommend seeking out interviews with Villavicencio to add to your understanding.
