I went in expecting my heart to hurt and can confidently say Miss Ann Liang succeeded. This was beautiful, tragic, emotional, stressful, and cunning. This was such a change from her normal style of writing, and I could not have welcomed it more. Unfortunately, my heart took the hit and that doesn’t seem fair (I would like her hurt me again). The morally gray characters were morally graying, the forbidden romance was delectable, and the drama was very much present!! I also love the Chinese story aspect. It was really fun to see how that was adapted into a novel.
