Love and Other Perils: A Regency Novella Duet by Grace Burrowes, Emily Larkin

4.0

Grace Burrowes and Emily Larking have combined with a couple of cute novellas, perfect for a quick evening read. Ms. Burrowes is one of my favorite romance authors and often participates in collections, but I find the other stories don't match up. I'm happy to report that I found both stories here equally charming.
Ms. Larkin's novella is actually a continuation to a book of hers I just finished. I enjoyed it much more, to be honest. Willie and Will are adorable, a soldier's daughter and a soldier, accosted by inconveniences and accidents and meeting them all with a laugh and good humor. And we have more kittens.
Ms. Burrowes's story involves Max Haddonfield who we've met before. Neither he nor Antonia are willing participants in the ton's events, so their meeting in the library disguises who they both are. Yet, it's obvious they're perfect for each other. We get to see some of Ms. Burrowes's other characters in a lovely story about two people who need each other.
I did take 1 star off because both stories are pretty much inst-love, a trope I dislike, though I understand that romance novellas often use it due to the length limitations. Still, this is a lovely read and I recommend both novellas.
