Don't Touch My Hair by Emma Dabiri

informative medium-paced

4.0

This was a fascinating, powerful read. Dabiri draws on her personal experience and explores history and pop culture to explain how Black hair is never just hair. She considers it in relation to issues of systematic racism, slavery, Eurocentric beauty standards, colonialism, dating, female friendship and even maths. It's quite a short book but she packs in so many interesting topics and I really liked her writing style. It was academic but very accessible and her personality and sense of humour came through.
