Somebody's Daughter by Ashley C. Ford

challenging emotional reflective tense fast-paced

5.0

First let me start off with, I did not know this book was nonfiction. I know what you're thinking- it says memoir on the cover... it sure does, but did I notice that initially? I sure didn't lol. This book is so beautifully written, vulnerability from beginning to end. It is simple (easy to read) yet so vivid, the imagery and story all throughout kept me engaged and left me reflective. Something that stood out to me is the rawness and relatability in Ashley's experiences as a girl beginning to mature physically, something I'm sure a lot of girls and women can relate to. Given the nature of some of her experiences there were some tough parts to get through and my emotions were definitely stirred, as a good book does. One of my favorite topics of conversation with any human is childhood and parenting. I am a firm believer that the depth of self awareness, consciousness, and healing comes from understanding one's experiences and childhood. Needless to say, I loved everything about this book!
