As an avid viewer of BookTok content (aka almost my entire FYP is about books), I’ll often have moments where I see books that are highly talked about or recommended and then request them from my library in a frenzy. Then, once I actually pick up the books, I have no clue what they’re actually about. That’s definitely what happened with Furyborn. I think the only reason I actually requested it is because so much of BookTok consists of fantasy recommendations and I haven’t read a true fantasy book in years. I decided I might as well get into it again and start somewhere. And here we are.

Not knowing literally anything about the book meant I didn’t go into it with any expectations. I think this was for the best. Even after I read the inside cover, I was still a bit confused. There’s just a lot of simultaneously moving parts. I wish I could say the confusion ended when I started reading but I think it only intensified. I had no idea what was going for at least the first half.

Overall, it’s a pretty decent book. I’m not mad at it for my first foray back into the fantasy world. Definitely a good library read. I don’t know that I’d have liked it as much if I bought it outright.
