The Courage to Be Disliked: How to Free Yourself, Change Your Life, and Achieve Real Happiness
by Fumitake Koga, Ichiro Kishimi
DID NOT FINISH: 32%
DNF'd at 32% b/c this book is total trash!!! What an outdated way to think about psychology and humanity. Adler passed away in the 1930's and this book negates any of the advancements that have been made in regard to psychology, trauma, the brain, etc. I think this book would even be a danger for someone who is struggling or has had a rough life, to read. While I do agree that we are in control of our happiness, and we SHOULD worry less about what people think about us, or what has been done to us. However, we also can't deny that our environment plays a role in how we think/feel/react. To sit there and say that "trauma doesn't exist", that people only use emotions (such as anger) to elicit a submissive response from the other person in order to get our own way, or that a suicidal teenager is slitting their wrists for attention and to get revenge on a parent, is ridiculous!!! Those were the lessons I heard within the first 32% of the book, so I can't imagine there'd be anything worthy of my time in the remaining 68%.
