In Her Shoes by Jennifer Weiner

The tendency to slap the label "chick-lit" on to a book then assume that equals "fluffy air-head girly read" does disservices to the women writers whose works are genuine quality reads. Yes, Weiner is writing for a primarily female audience - should she have to apologize for it?

Her book tackles many serious underlying social issues and delve into the complex landscape of family ties and secrets. It is well written, funny and an enjoyable read.

Yes, it is chick-lit - but it is "chick-lit for a brain." Which many women do have, and I'm glad Jennifer Weiner can cater to such an audience.
