a controlling relationship consumes rachel's life and pushes her into the life of non-monogamy and kink. having sex is easy, but escaping the horror of her abusive partner proves to be the greater challenge. dark, graphic, and deeply disturbing. i think the title is misleading -- this book isn't about non-monogamy, it's about how one woman came to understand her desires after being forced into a non-monogamous relationship by a creepy boyfriend, and ultimately came to liberation. there is a lot of psychoanalysis; we hear from all sorts of psychologists, psychiatrists, theorists, and kink coaches to give readers a well-rounded idea of what kink and polyam is and what it isn't (most of this relationship). krantz is an excellent writer, and i'm blown away by her candor and willingness to record herself through such horrific experiences.
