Low Orbit by Kazimir Lee is at its core a story about Azar. She and her mother move to a Vermont small town for a job opportunity. Meanwhile, her dad remains in New York. Despite the association its title has, it is a contemporary graphic novel. Azar stumbles upon a copy of her friend's father's sci-fi novel and can’t let it go.
Azar was the only thing that kept me reading. I didn’t like Shannon. He just felt like an old loser and He was a terrible parent. I also don’t like landlords.. The idea of quotes from his book in the story was good, but I didn’t find it that interesting.
Thalia and Azar had good potential but it didn’t feel like it reached it. The moment they accidentally touched each other's hands I thought, oh. Other than that there wasn’t much built up. Suddenly they started doing it under the table in public. It just wasn’t my type of romance.
I liked the ending. Azar's mom was left to consider her past actions. Her dad finally moved back. Shannon had moved away, and it felt very realistic. The story was just a small part of Azar's life, of her finding herself even if not fully. Still, this wasn’t anything outstanding to me. Mixed thoughts.
