A story about a teen girl in Oakland, CA who resorts to sex work to survive and gets caught up in a huge police scandal. This book is a beautifully written series of absolute gut-punches that manages to avoid being total misery porn by centering on the humanity of the main character, and the very flawed people around her. Confronting and dark, I did have to take this book in small doses. Sensitive readers should check the content warnings before reading.
