I adore Barbara Comyns writing. She is the best. I love how her accolades are all shifty like ‘no one else is quite like her’ ‘strange and unusual’. This is an unsettling and clammy wee novel about a sickness that sweeps through an English village in 1911. Lots about ducks, fevers, flowers, slow moving rivers and a creaky old claustrophobic house.
