Revenge of the Witch by Joseph Delaney

2.0

Plot: A young boy apprentices to the Spook and learns to defend the County and combat the growing threat from the witches.
Good: interesting plot, good illustrations
Bad: no character depth

I have decided to give this book a shot because it is being adapted into a major film. This was definitely a children's book, but the horror element may be too gory for very young kids. The writing was simple. It had an interesting plot, but the characters were under-developed. The book felt more like a summary than a heartfelt story. The illustration at the beginning of each chapter was a nice touch. So, it added some creepiness to a rather clumsy storytelling. However, the ending surely made up for it, as it was done in an amusing and comical way. I think you would like the book for the adventure alone. The plot was interesting enough that I will be reading the next book in the series.
