The Glittering Hour by Iona Grey

2.0

Good gravy, this is boring and ever so predictable. It took me an age to finish it!

The beginning was such a slog and I admit I almost abandoned it a few times. I found the pacing throughout the book really erratic. The story was painfully predictable and there was nothing to keep me reading other than determination to not abandon my first book of 2020

I didn’t like Selina at all as I found her petulant, spoilt, and vacuous. Telling her daughter about her wanton ways was a bit odd and uncomfortable especially given the daughter’s young age. I couldn’t relate to Selina so having her as a lead character was another element that didn’t appeal to me. She was a shallow, entitled cow. Her friends were entitled snobs and they were a really unappealing bunch.

I thought the story was rehashed from a thousand other similar novels. It’s a trope that’s been overdone to the point of tedium.

I was disappointed in this as I remember really enjoying Letters to the Lost.
