I absolutely fell in love with this book.
The FMC is from the perspective of someone in a domestic abuse relationship. About her coming to the conclusion of leaving him and her journey gaining confidence in herself again. I loved that it explored being a domestic abuse survivor and what mental obstacles one may need to overcome within oneself. Some parts were a bit triggering for me but was able to fast read through it. The reason I liked this FMC perspective is because as much as I love a strong assertive FMC it starts to feel like wash and repeat. FMC can be broken and soft and have a different kind of strong.
Along the way, the MMC helps her realize her strong and comforts her. Of course there are other twist and turns with the MMC that I don’t want to spoil. He is a shadowy type MMC with other powers too.
Their relationship is star crossed lovers. Her memories are fragmented due to something that previously happened. She just begins to start gaining them at the end of the book. I feel like this is going to be a tragic love story however there are more books in the series.
The background is an oppressed kingdom that has to send candidates for trials. The candidates are humans but there are Fae (who are oppressed), various vampires, and night walkers? (Can’t remember the specific name), and celestials.
I absolutely would reread this book again with the emotional connection I felt the FMC went through.
1000% recommend this but be worried domestic situation may be triggering.
