Tote Mädchen lügen nicht
by Jay Asher
I didn’t like it. Really didn’t. The way how J.A. Deals with difficult and important topics isn’t right, at least in my opinion.
Hannah had a mental illness, this is totally clear. But - it is never mentioned in this book. Hannah blames other people for her condition and their is no try to explain that it’s not necessarily the reason. She is portrayed as saint, because it is Clays view J. A. writes from. And of course, Clay was in love with Hannah and love can make blind but it should not make blind almost every reader.
Their are so many things Hannah did which were just sooooo wrong. But she had a mental illness (which may be caused by the behavior of some people but not necessarily was. You can be mental ill without any ‘real reasons’), so I can not blame Hannah for doing this things. But I can blame J. A. For not saying that Hannah was ill.
This made the book so wrong for me. In fact, there are much more things that I didn’t like and I need to discuss but this is kind of the biggest.
(I need to add - at one point Hannah locks a dog in the garage (just because the poor dog was barking the whole time) and then she leaves to Courtneys house. Why didn’t anybody said anything about this? I mean, we are in the 21st century, no dogs should be locked in stinky garages just because the are getting on somebody’s nerves.
And Clay throws food away - just because he is not hungry at this moment. I mean why? He buys this thing just because Hannah liked to buy sweets at the same kiosk and the he throws it away. Why would you do that? I mean really- it’s food, you don’t throw it away, especially not in situation like this.
I know this is really picky and i am sorry for that and I do know that there are points in this book which are much worse but I feel like nobody noticed this small, weird, crazy, stupid things. I need to apologize a second time for picking up those in relation to other point of this book unimportant things. I am really sorry.)
