Set in Crete during WWII, a story of two Australian soldiers who are hidden by Cretans and help them fight against the invading German soldiers. They are both attracted to a local girl - one sees her as a conquest, the other as a beautiful young woman. Her brother who is half German is filled with hatred and wants only to be acknowledged by the Germans and taken to Germany where he plans to look for his father. Several stories woven into this tale, easy to read and well described by the author. Another excellent book by Kate Forsyth
