this was so fun.
cat sebastian's prose is so snappy and engaging that i found myself struggling to put this down. nick and andy are two incredibly charming protagonists that i was rooting for, even through all of the miscommunication and internal struggles they were dealing with. the miscommunication gets a pass, too, because of the very nature of queerness in the 50s and the quiet, unspoken nature of it.
i wasn't expecting to feel seen by any of the characters, but andy is the poster child for ADHD and RSD, and to see him acknowledge that he was being unfair but unable to stop himself from acting upset was such a Moment. i don't really have words for it, but man. it felt so real and raw in a way i'm not used to with ADHD. also, him losing things 20 seconds after putting them down? felt.
i loved this book from the moment i realized both protagonists hated the yankees. it was like getting corralled into your friend's nonna's kitchen so she could weigh you down with leftovers. such a lovely, fun time that i cannot recommend enough.
