I fancied a light hearted listen for my latest audiobook and found this little gem available on my local library app. Admittedly I haven’t watched much of Matt Lucas, only dipping in to Little Britain and other things he’s been on, and so I didn’t really know that much about him nor his work.

The book isn’t chronological, and instead follows a comical approach to the alphabet - for example, B is for Baldy! It is a collection of stories over his lifetime that have shaped both his personal and professional life.

First and foremost, Matt Lucas comes across as incredibly warm and friendly; much like you’re chatting to a friend over the phone about their life while having a little giggle about it all. There is an openness that is endearing, especially when discussing his more ‘diva’ moments (not that there really was many).

It’s a funny and charming account of his life so far. Nothing ground breaking (though I didn’t realised he grew up in my neck of the woods!) And I’d say just about the right length too.

Overall a 4/5 for me. I’d recommend it, especially if you’re a big fan of his already, but even if not, it’s a nice, light, read!
