First of all, Sarah J. Maas is evil and I teared up like 3 times in this book, highly recommend this series.

First I would say this is more of a 4.5 book because while I did enjoy it, I felt the Manon sections were a bit distracting. They were interesting, but at times I was either really wanting to get back to the Celaena plot or it was more interesting than the Celaena plot. Now I’m sure that this will all play into the plot somehow later. I have complete faith in Sarah, she’s a very talented author.

Quickly covering that, I enjoyed the Manon plot enough, sometimes, especially with the Yellowlegs bitch it felt like demon-witch high school. However I liked Manon, I found this culture really interesting and I’m excited to see where to goes.

Then Dorian and Chaol’s stories. Dorian getting a new love interest was nice, it was perfect for him to move on from Celaena so Chaol could get with her. However…I’m sad to say this but even though I really ship Chaol and Celaena, there are so many parallels between Dorian and Celaena I feel like that’s going to be the couple that Maas goes with. Rowan calling Celaena queen and Chaol calling Dorian king. I still really want Chaol and Celaena to get together but I probably won’t be surprised if that’s the direction that Maas goes in.

I was sad to see Dorian’s love interest die, I was surprised because I convinced myself that she was the daughter of Celaena’s maid that sacrificed herself. But nope she was working with Ren. Also, remember how I said that Maas was pure evil? Well she is because how dare you put that fucking collar on Dorian, that’s at one of the points I started tearing up and I had to put the book down before I could finish it because dammit that was not okay. Dorian was being a little prick but right when Chaol and him start to make up and he was finally starting to be able this happens. I’m so sad.

Side note before I go into Celaena, I really loved all the people in the fortress, like after Rowan stopped being an asshole. It was great. I was so pissed off when he trapped Luca, I was ready to kill him, even after his sad backstory, I was still miffed, but then when Celaena was burning out and he saw her scars and when he was so pissed off and then just comforted her. Mama Rowan for the win. Also Emrys. I loved this guy, he was so sassy, I couldn’t bare to read the page where Celaena snaps at him the morning after Rowan tells her to fuck off. He doesn’t give a shit that Rowan and Celaena could easily kill him, he’ll put them in their places like a boss. Plus him with his mate is always great. Also Luca is adorable and I love him.

Now onto Celaena, though her constant angsty behavior was annoying at times, I really liked her when she started to get her powers under control. When was trapped by those princes and that flashback started I was crying so badly. It was so beautiful. My favorite part was that scene with Maeve. She was such a bitch whipping Rowan, then she whips out that sword and threatens to burn all her people alive unless she stops with Rowan. Then she basically puts all the pieces together and says this history. Then to top it all off she has the engagement ring, and she trades it for Rowan’s freedom. Then that blood oath. I’m so sad that Rowan isn’t coming on this adventure, in the next book we better see him, because whenever he got his POV sections they were the best. Although, I just watched Katytastic’s video…what if that ring had the Wyrdkey …the second one. It was a really great book, it took me a long time to finish but I’m so glad I did and I will eventually read The Assassin’s Blade.

Couple of side notes: I’m sad that Celaena’s hair was cut. I don’t know why, it’s just disappointing. Also I love when Sarah J. Maas just takes us to another part of the world and shows how people are reacting to what’s going on. Like my favorite scene in this book is when we see the musicians and they play all those songs after the slater of the slaves in Endovier and that other place. It makes the world feel real and we don’t have to rely on our main characters to get this.

Any way, what did you think of this book, any predictions for the next one?
