I really live Chevy. She can write the hell out of character and really make you think about reliability.
This was a really good story. Took two days to listen too it but had a really slow start. A lot do the story depended on character development and the two timelines made a lot of that development indolence. Teenaged drama isn’t my favorite thing and it made sections really drag.I wasn’t expecting the cop to be involved in the way he was. I thought he was just be covering for his daughter because it was very obvious the mean girls group was behind her murder. The addition of the cop teen romance didn’t really add enough to the story to make it worth it. It felt like strictly shock value.
Also good god was the mother unbearable. The absolutely worst character and I wanted nothing more than to see her demise. All I could think about is how many times she was told that her “precious” daughter Nicole was messing up and how she always believed the lies Nicole said over her “screw up” of a daughter Toni. And in the end she still has zero character growth and continues to blame Toni for Nicole’s death instead of herself and her husband. A complete joke of a person.
The authors writing is amazing overall though. One of my favorites and I’m slowly working my through her backlog.
