Love in the Time of Cholera
by Gabriel García Márquez
DID NOT FINISH: 83%
I really enjoyed this book and how it was written, I feel like there was a beautiful way that the transition of character viewpoints shifted within the book. I honestly got 83% through and chalked a lot of the not great themes to it being a book that is not timeless and very much of its time.
Unfortunately I had to skip about 20 pages when there was sex with a 14 year old at the age of 60+.
I also do not believe this was ever written as a “beautiful love story” like so many others have reviewed here. I believe that Marquez showed Florentino’s actions to subvert the idea that obsessing over one woman for your whole life is romantic.
