I can tell already that this series will hold a permanent place in my heart. I loved this sapphic romance and the fact that both Maud and Violet got to be just as complex and messy and horny as Robin and Edwin were in book one. I adored getting to meet Alan Ross and I am greatly anticipating his romance with Lord Hawthorn in the next book. I loved the glimpses, though brief, of Edwin and Robin's more lived in and domestic dynamic now that they've been together for awhile.
Significant Plot Spoilers:I also mourned the loss of Mrs. Navenby twice over and hope Maud gets the necklace back in the next book. I absolutely love Maud being a medium and can't wait to see both her and Robin grow further into their powers in the last book.
Book Ending/Relationship Spoilers: My only very slight disappointment is that the girls ended up in a slightly less definitively forever together at the end than Robin and Edwin, but we have another whole book to see them get their happily ever after and this ending still felt like they are headed there together. It also felt like an understandble place to leave off and still a satisfying ending given where the ladies are at and the type of narrative this book was telling. It's not that Maud and Violet aren't together at the end if that's a concern for a potential reader out there. Their relationship at the end of book two is just a little more open ended, a very tentative and unspoken beginning, than I may have liked (despite them sleeping together many times and definitely being endgame and being SO good together. Both ladies love each other very much and have already worked through a lot of their trauma and I love and support them taking the time to feel things out and grow together).
I keep going to stop writing and then remembering another thing I love!! I'll be here for an hour writing even more of a novel of a review if I go into detail but the TLDR is that I am fucking OBSESSED with the magic system and every little bit we learn about magic from different places makes me more feral!! Someone talk to me about this I'm never going to shut up about these books.
I absolutely cannot wait to read the next volume and may struggle to resist starting tonight despite it being 4 am. Lord Hawthorne is a prickly asshole and he is a fav and I am SO READY FOR HIM TO BE ROMANCED and further dragged into this beautiful little found family.
