DNF @ 38%

God, this was so bad, it surprised me that I read further than when I initially contemplated putting it down (at 8%!). And by putting it down, I mean throwing it against the wall.

I didn't care for the writing. At. All. It reminded me of my own old works of fanfiction. (Lots of literal descriptions about what happened, insta-lust as soon as the two MCs set eyes on each other in the book (even though they've known each other for a bit), and way too much info-dumps.)

The pacing was waaay too fast (and I'm a person that loves a fast-paced story), the entirity of what I read was about the stalker or how hot Rayne was. That was it. I just couldn't deal.

The "blossoming" relationship between Rayne and Christa was just downright awkward. They are both around thirty years old, yet they act like fourteen year-olds, love-struck only by the idea of the other person. The dude got a boner just looking at the bare skin of her waist when her shirt rode up a bit. And still, she claims that she feels comfortable and safe with him, even though he "makes her legs feel like jell-o"! If you're stammering and sweating and shaking when he gets near you, that's not really a definition of 'comfortable'.

There was so much talk about this stalker, there was no break in between. And when we, as readers, are reminded of this dude on every single page, there's no surprise or suspense on what happens next when the stalker strikes again. His perspective also showed up way too early in the story.

Also, the most annoying and enfuriating thing, BY FAR, was Christa. How can a person this dumb, this out of tune with her own instincts, be alive! Let's go out alone when you know there's someone watching you and you feel uncomfortable. Let's go have ONE self-defense lesson while you've not yet recovered from a concusion. Let's not bother other people with your feelings of fear, because 'what if it is not something weird or dangerous, god forbid people make fun of you, or something'. Let's go outside alone in the middle of the night when your dog's acting strange while the stalker is still out there. Perfectly logical actions, right? NO!

Rayne also has a couple of great one-liners by the way:

"Hey. Something spook you?" Yeah, no shit, Sherlock, there's a stalker out there. Which you actually warned her about when you told her that a stalker-case can turn out really bad.

"Be careful and don't let him get to you." Yeah, that's easy.

"I mean how pathetic is that? The one guy who wants me turns out to be a sicko." - "Maybe you're too busy to notice the ones that aren't sickos." Yeah, she's being stalked and threatened, of course she should have attention for you too. That's the least she could do, right? She doesn't have anything else on her mind.

All in all, one of the worst reads ever. I didn't mind the plot, but the writing was just juvenile, the pacing was off, the characters were dumb, none of these people made logical or practical decisions,
when she was kidnapped, I wasn't even going to be mad if she ended up killed
, and yeah, I just hated this so bad, I would give this a 0.1 star rating if I could.
