I was really excited to dive into the sequel after loving the first book. But, I have to say, it didn't quite hit the mark like the first one did. I gave the first book a solid five-star, but I'd give it only a four-star rating.
What I liked most about the book was the cool magic system it had going on. It was all about tea, gods, goddesses, and Shennong-Shi, which kept things interesting. The tension in the story was tangible, keeping me hooked from start to finish.
However, towards the end, things felt a bit rushed. It seemed like the author could've taken more time to tie up loose ends and give us a more satisfying conclusion. Plus, the motives for the villain, especially from Kang's perspective, were a bit fuzzy. It felt like there were some important details missing. On top of that, the romance in this book is a bit all over the place. It didn't quite feel as developed or cohesive as I would've liked.
Overall, “A Venom Dark and Sweet” is still a mesmerizing read with its cool magic and gripping tension. It falls just short of a perfect rating due to the rushed ending, unclear character motives, and scattered romance, but it's definitely worth checking out if you enjoyed the first book.
