hwestenhofer 's review for:
Jane Eyre
by Charlotte Brontë
Finally finished by second book by one of the Brontë sisters, and this one had been recommended to me in surplus. Victorian literature is not my favorite era of literature, but I do enjoy the melodrama. I felt that, while a romance, this story had a unique quality to it, as it seemed to focus on the essence of Jane's life rather than her romance. She has a distinct personality separate from any love interest from an early age, and it chronicles her life rather than just a budding romance. I felt that there were times where the prose was a little too excess, but that's merely characteristic of the period. It was, overall, a relatively engaging story, and I understand why it is widely studied.
