I am so utterly and completely hooked on this series.  I don't think Noda ever fails to flesh out a character or their hurts and motivations.  They're all so painfully human, watching them collide in a high-adventure alternate history is just... ugh, it's so good.  The whole series has this perfect mix of puerile humor, high action, character vulnerability, survival stories, and Ainu cultural detail that's unforgettable.  Hands down it has to be one of my top 5 favorite comics in any genre, from any comics tradition.  It shoulders out Transmetropolitan.  And for me, that's huge.
