Verity by Colleen Hoover

Ending letter gave this SOME redemption (like a half star worth). Couldn’t stand the writing, characters are underwhelming, and I’d recommend anyone to just watch Shutter Island instead of reading this. This was my third CoHo after swearing off from my experience of the first two, but I wanted to be an educated hater. It did have moments where I was a little on edge, but I think this is just from my own ability to get scared easily. I also think the narrator being “unreliable” was a cop out and poorly executed. Finally, I have beef with Colleen constantly using traumatic things in her work seemingly for shock value. This isn’t to say traumatic things cannot be included in books, but she tends to not handle them well.
