Galatea by Madeline Miller
4.0
I have to say, this was definitely not what I expected. Did I read the blurb? No, but anyway. This was an outstanding short story one that I wholeheartedly enjoyed. I particularly enjoyed all of the story's hidden themes, and it's such an excellent portrayal of women imprisoned in marriage - and certainly women of that era. I had no previous knowledge of the Galatea mythology narrative, but I surely looked it up after. Throughout the novel, I felt deeply for the main character, and it was heartbreaking. I was definitely applauding her actions at the end of the book, you go girl.
“I covered myself with my hands and made soft noises like a child. Blush, blush, I prayed. Blush for him, or he will kill you. And I was fortunate, for it was warm in the room, and I was angry, and ashamed too,”
