I really enjoyed the story and the characters in DoTDE, it was fascinating and the world is intriguing. I really enjoyed Lyr and Rhyan as characters, even if I did find Lyr a little irritating at times. I loved that the seat of power passes to women, and i loved the dynamics between the characters.
I found that we got big information dumps occasionally, which really took me out of the story and I would have liked it more if the world building was a bit more seamless. I also felt like, while the family relationship was a big part of the story, that we didn’t actually spend much time with Lyr’s family (especially her dad). I also felt like the story was building to a big reveal, with very fun Easter eggs and foreshadowing throughout, and then it kind of just… ended? Which was a bit of a let down.
Overall, a very fun read and I will be reading book 2!
