Plot: Starting right at the end of the last book, Alanna has become a squire to her friend, Prince Jonathan. Throughout the course of this story, Alanna must deal with her first battle, makes friends with a mysterious cat (Faithful), and take down Roger of Conté, a royal duke whom Alanna believes is evil. She learns more about her magic, and must continue to hide her gender as two young men in her life declare their feelings for her.

Genre: Young adult fiction, fantasy, action and adventure.

1. I read (in articles, reviews, blogs, etc.) that Tamora Pierce was forced to shorten these books, and keep them to a ridiculously low page count. This was due to the fact that when they were originally published, people didn't think children/young adults would read longer books. What a load of codswallop. I would love to see a version of these books rewritten by Tamora Pierce, and published as she originally wanted them. I'm willing to cut them some slack now that I'm aware of this issue. Also, I've read that Tamora Pierce's writing improves as she goes along too, so here's hoping!
