A unique plotline and an interesting story...with monsters!!
The characters had a great flow with their interactions, and the world building was described beautifully so that envisioning the surrounding areas and the situations they found themselves in were easy to slip into.
The monsters and the lore behind this story are definitely what drives it for me, though. I was enamoured by them, and I found each mentioning of them peaked my interest best.
But.
I feel like the story itself could have been worked upon and fleshed out a bit more. There seemed to be a little bit of a disconnect for me. There's one part in particular that kept nagging at me, and it was the mentioning of Winnies teeth clicking frequently, I just didn't get it, and I know it's stupid, but it was those moments that took me out of it. I feel like I left this book with more questions than I usually do, too, like I don't feel as if anything was really resolved, except for the parts that are relatively easy to figure out.
Besides all this though, I did enjoy reading it, and I do own the sequel because I need more of these monsters, and I'm hoping the answers we get will make it all make sense and have me upping the rating of this one.
