I've heard great things about Keith Nixon, so couldn't pass up the opportunity to read his latest!
This is the second book in the Pennance series, and I do think my enjoyment would have been stronger had I read the first, but there is enough backstory here to read it as a standalone.
This book starts off a little slow for me, but does pick up in the middle, and from there I couldn't put it down!
Pennance is a great character- funny and very clever. His relationship with the others are great to read, and when his loyalties are tested I felt for them all. Nixon writes tension wonderfully, and as police procedurals go, I really enjoyed this. I look forward to the next installment!
